RE: Need help on 5th Wheel Clearance

I have to wonder if 18" wheels on a 28' Outback Sydney would clear the fenders and structure underneath such as slide mechanism, etc ...
The 08' Chevy has higher rails than the classic chevy trucks do too ... I'm afraid you may have created a condition with the TV lift and the TV wheels that you may not be able to overcome ...

RE: Are there less RV's in the parks?

It looks to me like the state and federal campgrounds we frequent are as full as usual, but they don't fill up as quickly with advance reservations ... when I go on line to make reservations, I don't have to reserve them as far in advanced...
I think that demand is down, but not so much that the popular parks don't stay full anyway ...

RE: Rear kitchens, pros/cons

Would like our next 5th to have a rear kitchen, but the lay out will have be one so when the slide is in you can open the pantry and frig. Our 5th now, when slide is in, nothing is blocked.
I agree ... that was something we required in our rear kitchen Cougar 292RKS. Nothing is blocked in the kitchen with the slide in. The LCD TV is blocked in the LR tho, but not a big deal for us.

RE: Rear kitchens, pros/cons

Another thing we like about the rear kitchen is that the person working in the kitchen is not "in the way" visually or for foot traffic ... and the person working in the kitchen is not bothered by any "thru traffic" either.

RE: Bug guts on front cap

So do the fabric softener sheets have to be "Bounce" brand sheets?
Every time I hear of this method, its always mentioned as the "Bounce" sheets.
Or is it like everybody calling all tissues "Kleenex"?
I'm not sure about other brands ... but I tried "Bounce" brand sheets and it worked like a charm ...

RE: Titan towing capacity

Diane,
The Titan is a beautiful truck, but it's not up to towing the trailer you mentioned ...
See this thread: http://www.rv.net/forum/index.cfm/fuseaction/thread/tid/21087500.cfm
... for a discussion about 5th wheel trailers small enough for 1/2 ton trucks.

RE: Rear kitchens, pros/cons

It really boils down to personal preference. My wife greatly prefers the wrap-around feeling she gets and the cabinet space she gets with our rear kitchen Cougar.
Cougar 292RKS Rear Kitchen
Almost 2000 miles on this trailer so far and we have had no issues regarding bounce, etc in the cabinets, drawers or fridge ... (We do not go off-road tho)

RE: Lets talk Backing the Fifth Wheel

When I have the opportunity to take my time and to plan my actions, I don't need a slider hitch. In backing situations where I have time to plan and to think, I don't need it. It's the unplanned and hurried times that I have been most glad that the automatic slider was back there.
About a month back we were on a rural road when I missed a turn. As many of you who travel in rural areas know, sometimes an opportunity to turn around with plenty of room frequently does not present itself quickly, if at all. About a mile after missing the turn, I saw an opportunity to make a turnaround on a parallel path to the main road, but the turns involved to navigate it required a slider with my setup. Having the slider allowed me to use that turnaround opportunity, and it being a Superglide allowed me to take advantage of it without stopping on the main road to manually extend a slider.
On another occasion, when on unfamiliar roads, I found myself needing to make a sharp right turn from a narrow road onto another narrow road. I had oncoming traffic, and the road I needed to turn onto had cars waiting to enter the road I was on. This afforded me no room to swing wide for the unexpected sharp turn. While I always try to avoid circumstances that require the slider due to the stress on the TV and trailer, it is in unexpected circumstances like this one where the automatic slider allowed me to deal with the difficult situation without worry.
I am NOT saying that anyone NEEDS a slider ... I am just sharing the circumstances where I most appreciate having one ...
Cheers!

RE: interested on a 5th wheel... not sure.. help

When picking out your 5er, you should also be considering your tow vehicle. They must work together, so be sure you get a matched pair ... :) ...

RE: Tire/wheel thoughts - upgrade to a LT 225/75R-16E"?

truckin-on, If you want to see what those exact same wheels and tires you are considering look like mounted on a Cougar, take a look here:
Sendel T02 and BFG LT225/75R16 tires
I have about 1400 miles on these so far ... I really do like them ...

RE: COmpartment door locks

IMO a better lock would not even slow a thief down. I don't think a thief would likely use a similar key. They would just break the lock out of the door panel with a screwdriver or just pry open the flimsy door.
Ten seconds at most regardless ...

RE: Setter's kidneys starting to fail-food suggestions?

In addition to diet, I recommend that you look into Azodyl ...
see This Link for some info ...
It is a fairly recent breakthrough in veterinary products that helps to slow down uremic toxin buildup and to prevent further kidney damage by providing natural Enteric Dialysis through the use of beneficial bacteria that support kidney function. It has widespread availability, is not terribly expensive, and does not require a prescription.
My vet recommended it. It brought down my dachsie's levels quickly. Ask your vet about it ... google it and you will find a lot of info ....

RE: Tow Vehicle Question

Scott,
When looking at trailers, don't assume that trailer length always equates to trailer pin weight. Some trailers in the 33-35' range have less pin weight than others that are under 30' ... It depends on the layout of the trailer, weight of materials used in construction, etc ...
For example, look at the Keystone Cougar 5th wheels ... this is a mid-height line with lower weights than some others.
If you are looking for a trailer over 30' you may be able to find a specific model that meets you weight capacity ...

RE: Tire Upgrade Limitation

I also went from a ST225/75R15D to a LT225/75R16E with aluminum wheel. I went with B F Goodrich Commercial TA's. They are only one inch taller than what you have now. That will make them one half inch closer to your wheel wells and one inch closer from tire to tire. 8,000 miles since upgrade and it was money well spent.
Same thing I did ... same sizes ... same tires ... Sendel T02 wheels ...

RE: The BEST bug remover you'll ever use!

I use Bounce sheets, from our drier. Even used sheets work well. Just spray down the unit and wipe over with bounce. takes bugs straight off
I used Bounce sheets and water for the first time this season. I was AMAZED at how well it worked. I can't wait to try Bounce sheets on "love bugs" this fall ... they have always been the worse bugs to remove.
